  • What to Expect

Following your Radiesse® dermal filler treatment, you may experience mild swelling, tenderness, itching, bruising, redness, or sensitivity at the treatment site. These effects are expected and typically resolve on their own.

Your provider may intermittently apply a cool compress to reduce swelling. It is also normal to feel a sense of firmness in the treated area during the first few days; this will gradually soften as the product integrates into the tissue.

Most side effects are mild and temporary, resolving within the first few weeks. If you experience any unusual symptoms or feel unwell, please contact your provider promptly.

    Aftercare Guidelines

Your provider will offer personalized aftercare instructions based on your treatment.

Swelling may occur following treatment. This can be managed with intermittent use of a cool compress for the first 24 hours and by minimizing excessive facial movement until swelling subsides. If small areas of firmness remain, gentle massage with clean hands may be recommended.

Avoid excessive exposure to ultraviolet light and heat, including saunas and steam rooms, as well as intensive facial treatments immediately following your procedure.

Keep the treated area clean and free from contamination until all injection sites have fully healed.

Monitor the treatment area closely. If you notice unusual or increasing pain, discoloration of the skin, a mottled appearance, pustules, cold sore formation, or any bruising that appears abnormal, contact your healthcare provider immediately.

    Treatment Longevity

The duration of Radiesse® results varies from person to person and is influenced by factors such as skin structure, age, and lifestyle. Treatments may be repeated as part of a long-term plan. Your provider will guide you on the appropriate timing for maintenance.

  • Overview

You have received a treatment in which a small amount of a muscle-relaxing protein has been injected to improve the appearance of targeted areas. Initial effects typically begin within 3 to 10 days, with full results developing by approximately 14 days. Results generally last 3 to 4 months.

    What Is Normal

It is common to experience mild swelling, redness, small bumps, bruising, or a mild headache following treatment. Some clients may also notice tingling or slight itching at the injection sites. These responses are considered a normal part of the process.

Visible effects may begin within 2 to 5 days, with peak muscle relaxation at around 14 days. Results may continue to refine over several weeks.

    Post-Treatment Care

Remain upright for at least two hours following your treatment.

Gently contract the treated muscles intermittently during the first hour, approximately every 20 minutes, as advised by your provider.

When cleansing the skin, use light pressure and gentle, upward strokes, avoiding unnecessary manipulation of the treated areas.

Avoid facial massage, electrical stimulation, or advanced facial treatments for two weeks.

Refrain from alcohol consumption and avoid exposure to heat, including saunas, steam rooms, sunbeds, and hot showers, as well as strenuous exercise for the initial recovery period.

Avoid wearing tight headwear or garments that apply pressure to the treated areas.

    Reducing Risk of Infection

Avoid applying makeup for approximately 6 hours unless it is mineral-based.

Wash your hands thoroughly after treatment and avoid touching the treated areas during the initial healing period.

    When to Contact Your Provider

Please contact your provider if you experience symptoms such as dry eye, eyelid drooping, or heaviness in the brow, or if you have any concerns regarding your results or overall wellbeing.

Follow-up or adjustment appointments are typically performed after 14 days if needed.

  • What Is Normal

Temporary numbness or tingling may occur immediately after treatment.

Moderate swelling, redness, and mild tenderness are expected for the first 2 to 3 days, with mild swelling potentially lasting up to two weeks.

Bruising may be visible initially, often becoming more apparent the following day before fading over 7 to 14 days. In rare cases, bruising may persist longer.

    Protecting Your Results

For 48 hours following treatment, avoid exposure to ultraviolet light and heat, including saunas, steam rooms, hot showers, and strenuous exercise, as these may increase swelling and discomfort.

Use a cool compress as needed, ensuring that ice is not applied directly to the skin.

Avoid applying pressure to the treated areas, particularly within the first 24 hours.

Refrain from facial massage or skin resurfacing treatments until the area has fully healed.

    Reducing Risk of Infection

Do not touch the treated areas for at least 6 hours.

Avoid applying makeup or lipstick directly over injection sites until the following day.

Avoid licking the lips for the first 2 hours after lip treatments.

    Infection or Adverse Reaction

Swelling, puffiness, or lumpiness that does not improve or worsens within the first week should be assessed by your provider.

If the treated area becomes firm, nodular, or increasingly tender after 48 hours, this may indicate a reaction or infection and should be evaluated promptly.

    Important Safety Information

In rare cases, dermal filler may affect blood supply to the skin. Prompt treatment is essential to prevent complications.

Signs of vascular compromise include pale skin immediately following treatment, a blotchy or mottled appearance, and progression to a blue or gray discoloration. Increasing pain, particularly within the first 24 hours, may also be present.

If you suspect any of these symptoms, seek immediate medical attention.

  • Immediate Aftercare

Leave any post-treatment products applied by your provider on the skin until the evening or as directed.

Avoid applying additional skincare products unless instructed.

Refrain from physical activity immediately following treatment.

Avoid pools, oceans, and environments with excessive heat, including saunas and steam rooms.

    The Following Day

You may resume a simplified skincare routine including a gentle cleanser, moisturizer, and mineral-based sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher containing zinc or titanium dioxide.

    Makeup

If needed, light makeup may be applied 24 hours after treatment.

    Resuming Active Skincare

Active ingredients such as retinoids, salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, and exfoliating acids may typically be resumed after 3 days, depending on skin condition.

For more sensitive or compromised skin, it is recommended to wait up to one week before reintroducing active products.
